What do Indra Nooyi and Oprah Winfrey have in common? Besides being one of the most influential women in their respective fields they have the distinct honor of appearing on Fortune magazine's annual list of the "Most powerful women in Business" of 2012. Women have come a long way from being encouraged to be a 'proper' housewife to leading the powerhouses of the world. Facebook, Yahoo, Pepsico, Hewlett-Packard owe their money-making strategies to women CEOs and COOs who are as qualified (and sometimes more!) as their male counterparts. Just ask Sheryl Sandberg, Marissa Mayer, Indra Nooyi and Meg Whitman.
With all the heartening news that more women CEOs feature as the leaders of Fortune 500 companies, there is still a long way to go. Women currently hold only 4.0 percent of Fortune 500 CEO positions and 4.5 percent of Fortune 1000 CEO positions. The March issue of Samvad themed 'Women in Management' brings forth this very discussion. It not only celebrates the achievements of the new age women leaders but also concurrently questions the lack of more women in the top jobs.
Read all about the top women in business, how women entrepreneurs are achieving their dreams and success in spite of juggling both work and family. Debate whether women are much better leaders than men when it comes to management. And find out how top companies are making sure that their women leaders have an equal chance as their male counterparts to become the next CEO - right from the requisite training to flexible work and day care options. Get inspired by the brilliant Mrs. Chanda Kocchar who has broken the glass ceiling for women in the financial sector. And yet understand the reasons behind women not gunning behind the top job. Featured along is an interview with Mrs. Sarita Bahl , Director, Public Affairs, Pfizer India. You can identify strongly with her zeal and achievements which have been perfectly balanced with family.
