AI is making a big difference to healthcare in India. It is changing the way doctors diagnose illnesses, plan treatments, and care for patients by using smart technologies like machine learning or other cognitive technologies. AI brings with it many benefits—like more accurate tests, quicker diagnoses, personalised treatment plans for patients, and effective allocation of hospital resources. These improvements help patients get better care and can also lower costs, leading to better outcomes for them.
Students who get a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Healthcare Management learn how to analyse data and think strategically, which are important skills for navigating the complicated medical systems of today. The healthcare business needs to keep coming up with new ways to improve patient care and the quality of service delivery. Adding new technologies, especially the ones that can handle huge amounts of clinical data and find useful insights, is one thing that is causing this change. Let's look at how these cutting-edge tools are changing healthcare as we know it in the next few parts.
Let’s take a look at the benefits of AI in healthcare and how its application is making a difference altogether:
1. Improved Diagnostics: AI checks X-rays and scans to find illnesses like cancer faster and more accurately than even the trained eyes. This means a medical practitioner can get faster diagnosis and can even recommend appropriate treatments that too in a much cost-effective way!
2. Personalised Treatment Plans: AI looks at a patient’s health information to make treatment plans that fit only them. AI can thus assist doctors pick the best medicines and determine how well they’ll work for the patient.
3. Faster Medicine Discovery and Development: AI helps scientists find new medicines quickly by studying vast datasets of molecular information. It predicts which medicines might work and speeds up the process of developing new drugs, while saving costs related to it as well.
4. Greater Administrative Efficiency: AI handles mundane things like data entry, claims processing and appointment scheduling efficiently. This gives doctors and nurses more time to exclusively focus on patient care.
5. Disease Surveillance and Outbreak Response: AI helps keep an eye on health data to catch disease outbreaks early. This allows public health officials to respond quickly and take appropriate actions to stop diseases from spreading.
6. Health Checks from Home: With certain gadgets, like AI-powered sensors and wearable devices, doctors can examine a patient’s health from far away, by tracking patient vital signs and activity levels. This can save a lot of time and resources and can also lead to early diagnostics and treatment.
7. Telemedicine: AI helps with online doctor visits by looking at a patient’s health information and suggesting what might be wrong. This makes it easier for patients to receive care from home, especially when distance or the patient’s poor health may be an issue. .
8. Robots in Healthcare: AI helps robots do surgeries, help with recovery, and care for patients. These robots make surgeries safer and also help people heal faster.
With healthcare associations looking eagerly to use artificial intelligence for a range of tasks, the challenges facing their usage must be first addressed—as numerous ethical and non-supervisory issues may come into the picture. . These include:
1. Data Bias: If AI is taught using unfair or incomplete data, it can make wrong diagnosis about patients. This can amplify existing healthcare differences, which can further lead to inaccurate diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
2. Ethical Concerns: Using AI in healthcare brings up questions about keeping patient information private. care needs to be take such that the patient’s medical data does not leak out.
3. Regulatory Framework: A robust regulatory framework needs to be put in place to make sure AI is used safely and fairly in healthcare.
4. Human Oversight: Even though AI can help a lot, doctors and nurses still need to check its work and make the final decisions, to ensure both patient safety and optimal care.
The future of AI in healthcare shows the potential to revolutionise healthcare, making it more efficient, personalised, and accessible for patients. In the coming years, as AI technology continues to advance, along with ethical considerations being addressed, AI will likely play an increasingly important role in all aspects of healthcare.
With a PGDM in healthcare management from Welingkar Institute of Management, individuals could look to venture out into the medical field and apply their learnings with hands-on experience. The future of AI in healthcare in India is here and will leave a long-lasting impression on the world of healthcare services.
